Katheryn (24 years old)

An encounter in Barranquilla, Colombia.

Katheryn (24 years old) is a young teacher who we met in Barranquilla when we were looking for orientation and the next taxi. We met with her the following day and found out more about her life.

What makes you happy?

"So, by getting to know myself better, I have found happiness in spending quality time with the people I value the most. This was something I didn't have before, due to my limited time, whether it was through work or studying. When I decided to change that lifestyle and have more time for myself and the people I love, I found much, much joy in spending time with them, whether it was for an hour or two. Last year I had the intention to do this and found great joy in sharing meals, going to restaurants or taking trips. But I also really love my time alone with God. I have found a lot of freedom in writing and just reflecting on life. These things make me very happy because I do what I like: writing, drawing and painting. All of this makes me very happy because it brings me a lot of peace. So I think knowing that I am at peace with myself and with the people I value and love makes me happy. Thank you."

Thanks for stopping by!

Burnout and depression often rob us of our sense of joy and make us feel feelings such as sadness, frustration and inner emptiness more strongly. During this difficult time, we asked ourselves: What does happiness actually mean for all of us? What really makes us happy? And what differences are there in different cultures, age groups and environmental conditions? We ask this question of the people we meet on our travels, in our project and in everyday life.
